Early Life
Marie Dionne Warrick was born on December 12, 1940, in East Orange, New Jersey, and her parents were Lee Drinkard and Mancel Warrick.
Warrick’s last name was misspelled as Warwick on a record album, and she decided to stick with the name.
She was part of the gospel musical group known as the Drinkard Singers. Her mother later became the manager of the group.
Dionne had two siblings. Her brother Mancel Jr. was killed in an accident in 1968 at the age of 21, while her sister Delia (Dee Dee), a prominent singer, also died in 2008.
The Warrick siblings were raised by their parents in East Orange, New Jersey, where Dionne started singing in the New Hope Baptist Church choir as a child.
Dionne elevated her singing career to another level after earning a degree at the Hartt College of Music in West Hartford, Connecticut.
After graduation, Dionne Warwick began singing backup and working with her singing group in New York City.

Personal life
Dionne Warwick got married twice to the same man. She first got married in 1966 to William Elliott, who was an actor and drummer.
After a year together, the couple got divorced in May 1967. Again, after almost two years apart, Dionne and William reconciled and remarried in August 1967 in Milan, Italy.
During their second marriage, the couple welcomed two boys. Dionne’s first son was born on January 18, 1969; his name is David Elliott. Her second son was born on March 21, 1973; his name is Damon Elliott.
The second marriage also lasted only a short time. The couple separated on May 30, 1975, and were officially divorced in December 1975 in a court in Los Angeles.
